Total sales of veterinary and horticultural antibiotics in New Zealand are down for a sixth year running, with sales of antibiotics considered critical for human health almost halving in the past year.
As part of World AMR Awareness Week last week, Dr Annabel Harris, Chair of the New Zealand Veterinary Association Anti-microbial Resistance (AMR) Committee, delves into the successful decline in veterinary and horticultural antibiotic sales for the sixth consecutive year.
She highlights the NZVA's myth-busting video series aimed at dispelling misconceptions about antibiotics as hyper-effective in communicating important information to Kiwis across the country.
Dr Harris explains the genetic tricks bacteria use to develop resistance, stressing the importance of informed antibiotic use on farms.
