Encanto Reo Maori is a celebration of where two cultures, Colombian and Maori, meet. The film highlights the similar values between these cultures: celebrating community, intergenerational knowledge, and respect for our elders.
Colombian consultant Mauricio Lozano, who hails from the Amazon, along with multilinguist Hana Mereraiha, have ensured that the Spanish language is honored throughout the film.
"Although this has been the most challenging film of them all, it'll pull on the heartstrings, make you laugh and cry all in the one breath," says Tweedie Waititi, Producer and Director said.
"Encanto Reo Maori is Disney's most culturally diverse production to date. It is an opportunity for us to embrace the many expressions of Maoritanga and celebrate the magic of being Maori," say Producers Chelsea Winstanley and Mia Henry-Teirney.
Encanto Reo Maori is set to release in selected theatres on September 12th 2024.
