New Livestock Parasite Management Groups Aim To Increase Knowledge

"The ultimate aim is so that farmers grow knowledge and confidence in this area to be able to make changes," Brosnahan adds.

In an exciting development for New Zealand's livestock farming community, Dr. Cara Brosnahan, Principal Scientist of Animal Health Research at Beef + Lamb NZ, discusses the creation of seven new Livestock Parasite Management farmer learning groups.

She explains these groups, designed with input from farmers, researchers, and rural professionals, aim to tackle the pressing issue of internal parasites in livestock, a challenge exacerbated by increasing drench resistance.

Dr. Brosnahan highlights the success of a pilot group in Wairarapa, facilitated by vet Sarah Sutherland, which has shown promising results.

The initiative hopes to empower farmers with knowledge and practical solutions, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among participants.
