Long-time friend of the show and Carter's Tyres brand ambassador Richard Loe, joined REX host Dominic George to discuss the challenges facing the farming industry, recap his recent trip to France for the Rugby World Cup and share his enthusiasm for the world of racing.
After returning from a lengthy trip to France, Loe recounts his journey and anticipates his involvement with Carter's Tyres at the upcoming Canterbury A&P Show.
He shed light on the impact of the festive season on rural businesses given farming doesn't stop for holidays and gave George firsthand insights into the current state of the lamb market.
"I got 146 bucks... 60 or 70 below what I got from the same animals last year," Loe explained.
"So that gives you an indication."
The conversation then moved onto the intricacies of farming, from getting hoggets to market to the complexities of the meat process, sympathising with those facing the challenges of farming in what is currently such a volatile market.
"Our costs aren't bad compared with the rest of the world, it's just about your returns, what you can sell, what you can get as a wage and how far it goes."
Shifting gears, Loe then discussed the thrilling world of racing, specifically recounting the performance of Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen at the Brabham BT62 6-hour endurance race.
He had raving reviews for the versatile racer and his debut performance in one of the toughest endurance races in New Zealand.
