Expert Warns GMO Deregulation In NZ Could Cost Tens Of Billions Of Dollars

"We need to know what we're putting at risk," Dr Kaye-Blake warns.

A new study from the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) has revealed the potential for a multi-billion dollar hit on New Zealand's primary sector exports if GMO rules are deregulated

Commissioned by Organics Aotearoa New Zealand,  Dr Bill Kaye-Blake co-authored the report and explains where these concerns are coming from.

He says this alarming figure raises concerns about jeopardising New Zealand's "clean and green" brand, which is essential for maintaining premium pricing in international markets.

Dr Kaye-Blake underscores the necessity for detailed analysis and inclusive dialogue to understand the true economic impact before implementing any legislative changes.
