WATCH: Trailer for movie about Al Capone starring Tom Hardy released

The film is set to release May 12.

A new movie about Al Capone, a.k.a "America's most notorious gangster" is set to release, starring Tom Hardy.

The film has been in the works for a couple years now. The official synopsis was released in 2018: "Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Al Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore...

...At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Al's mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life."

Director Josh Trank dropped the trailer to twitter without any warning just a few hours ago, watch it above. The trailer reveals the film will be about the "untold story of his final chapters".

Originally the film was going to be called 'Fonzo', but Trank has now changed it to 'Capone'.

The film is set to release digitally on May 12.
