WATCH: Comedian David Correos City Fitness ‘boiler room’ DJ set ends in a breach notice

“I’d actually go to gyms if this was the vibe …”

Ever wondered why there never seems to be a free bench at City Fitness? Well, it’s probably because some kent is using them all as a DJ booth.

I’ve seen a lot of odd stuff at gyms in my time. From the 5:30 pm broccoli head rush hour to some randoms kid running around screaming. So, walking into City Fit and seeing a whole ‘boiler room’ setup wouldn’t surprise me.

Kiwi Comedian David Correos posted a nearly 40-minute DJ set smack bang in the middle of the weights section at his local sweat pit.

Titled ‘boilerroom CityFitness Three Kings | David Correos B2B daichi.nz: Hard Techno’ - what mouthful - the trio rolled out a high-energy set including the iconic ‘Spongebob’ hit ‘Jellyfish Jam’ (16:45 for those interested).

The 2am set was cut short just shy of 40 minutes when the crew were approached by another person. In the video, Correos replied to the unidentified man “We’re just playing music”.

Over on Instagram, Correos posted an update on his ‘boiler room’ stunt, along with an email of a membership breach notice, saying he’s having to call the regional manager.

Comments flowed in from a very supportive number of people.

I’d actually go to gyms if this was the vibe,

said one hype man.

I suddenly feel a primal yearning to purchase the highest tier membership at @cityfitnessnz,

another added.

A third asked:

HAHAHAA, I mean why are gyms 24/7 then?!

Fitness Manager: That's not what we meant by ‘sets’ and ‘gains’

We’ve seen the fitness world merge many times with rave culture, most recently with Rhythm and Vines’ Redbull pop-up gym. The set-up included fitness instructor-led classes and ice baths for recovery. Gotta work hard, play hard team. Even our aussie mates are getting a fitness nightclub up and running over here!

There’s an obvious want for a rave and fitness crossover. Honestly, if I came across a bunch of lads on the decks at 2am in my gym, I’d be closing all my rings on my Apple watch in one sesh.
