I love travelling, and if I was not working in radio, I would be a travel blogger!
Finding a way to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and reconnect with nature is essential for our well-being and hiking is one of the best ways to do it.
Here is the list of my favourite hikes.
Te Henga Walkway, Muriwai
It is a great option if you're looking for some solitude and fresh ocean air. Very steep and narrow in parts. Stunning views from Whatipu to Muriwai. It takes an average of 3 hours to complete, so be warned - I had a lot of cramps after completing this (was the first one!)
Karamatura Falls Track, Auckland
The trail begins at a carpark slightly off the main road secluded by surrounding bush. There are a lot of stairs in the beginning, but once you pass them, it's not bad. As you make your way around to meet the stream, you'll find a smaller waterfall that makes a good splash. Beyond only a short walk will lead you to Karamatura Falls.
Mercer Bay Loop Track, Auckland
You will enjoy uninterrupted views up and down the west coast. It's impossible not to be impressed by the turquoise waters of the Tasman Sea. There is a massive variety of flora and fauna and if you listen carefully, you'll also hear several tui singing from the trees.
Kitekite Falls, Auckland
Kitekite Falls, also known as Kitakita Falls, is near the famous Piha Beach. It was pretty easy to reach the destination after a 30-minute walk (after those tough hikes). Good for you if you want to start hiking.
Kamahi Loop Track, Hawke's Bay
Although the hike up to the Pouakai Hut goes through patches of forest very similar to the Goblin Forest, the Kamahi Loop Track is the real deal.
The golden hour light breaking through forest trees is a breathtaking sight.
Kauaeranga Kauri Trail (Pinnacles Walk), Coromandel
This is on my list to do this summer. The Pinnacles Walk is a very popular day and overnight hike on the Coromandel Peninsula. The trail is 7 km each way to the summit. The sunrise view from the summit is breathtaking and a good enough reason for me to go.
Stay tuned for more adventures!
