NZ’s most stolen car has been crowned

One brand dominates the top 10.

AMI Insurance has released its annual list of the top 10 most stolen vehicles in New Zealand.

For the third consecutive year, the Toyota Aqua has claimed the top spot, followed closely by the Toyota Corolla, which moved up from third place in 2023.

Toyota remains the most targeted brand with five models in the top 10. Toyota Hilux jumped four spots on the list - with AMI explaining it was ‘driven by high demand for its parts and strong resale value’.

On a positive note, stolen vehicle claims have decreased for the first time in four years, and claims related to ram raids are down by 50% compared to 2023.

AMI General Manager of Claims, Wayne Tippet, explained: “This might suggest that, among unprecedented vehicle theft rates, New Zealanders have put security measures and practices in place, and are being more mindful about where they park their cars.”
