Kmart is opening a new NZ store so big, it took 10 years to find the right spot

self-control is gonna be needed if it's open 24/7!

My shopping addiction is about to hit a whole new level - the biggest Kmart store New Zealand's ever seen has just been announced.

Aucklanders, this one is for you, because the massive 6,700-square-meter beast is setting up shop at Westgate Town Centre.

It’s gonna be NZ’s 28th Kmart and the third one that's open 24/7. So there’s plenty of chance for all those late-night or last-minute shops that we all know too well.

You already know those 2am impulse buys are about to get reaaal dangerous… Do I really need another yoga mat and 6 different candles? Probably not, but we know how that’s gonna go.

Turns out, the plan to open such a huge store has actually been in the works for a long time. Kmart Australia and New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, John Gualtieri says it took more than a decade to find the perfect spot.

The new location can fit a total of 600 car parks and will have a dedicated area just for car boot pick-ups.

Thank gawd! Do you know how many times I’ve had to lug a heavy box through the mall and out to the car park - don’t even get me started on the times weather wasn’t on my side.

No exact date has been confirmed, but the giant Kmart is set to open sometime in 2026.

If that feels like aaaages away, there's something else epic opening much sooner - Lindt's first-ever NZ chocolate shop. From next week, you can dig into Lindt’s world-famous Crema Gelata Ice Cream, sip on a hot choc or create a custom ‘Pick and Mix’ stash to take home.
