The Kiwis just revealed their brand-new jersey for the 2024 league season - but it might look familiar to some fans.
The NZ Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns will be stepping onto the field next month in a jersey designed to replicate the teams’ 2002 kit.
Two decades later, the team are sporting a retro collar and the same strip from ‘02 which “pays homage to the rich history of the team”.
It’s also particularly special to the Kiwis’ head coach Stacey Jones who wore the jersey during his time on the field.
The jersey was unveiled on Tuesday, with previous Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns sharing their thoughts on the return of the old kit.
“I have no doubt that the players will - when they see this jumper - realise what it stands for and that it’s reflecting players that have been there in the past,” said Paul Rauhihi. “[Those who] have actually put a lot of their blood and sweat and tears into the jumper.”
He also explained the Jersey is extra special to him and his family because ‘02 jersey is now buried alongside his adopted father who passed while Rauhihi was in his 20s.
Ex-Kiwi Fern Nadene Conlon said: “Every time I watch the teams run out, it stirs those emotions, and you feel as if you're actually going out there to play.”
Fans are backing the threads too, with many keen on grabbing one themselves.
“Sick, loved these jerseys,” said one fan.
Another added: “FARKKK YESSSS 😍😍.”
While a third said: “It’s just so slick.”
Can’t wait to see the Kiwis run out in their fresh kit for the first round of the Pacific Championships against Australia on October 27th.
