King Charles has shared some well wishes to the New Zealanders affected by the flooding in Auckland this past week.
His Majesty's full message is on the Royal Family's official website. He says he has kept informed on the consequences of the immense rainfall that occurred in the North Island, and he and his wife are devastated by the news.
"It is with the deepest concern that I have been following news of the flooding and severe weather affecting several regions in Aotearoa New Zealand," it reads.
"My wife and I send our heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who have lost their lives, and our thoughts are with the many others whose lives have been so terribly impacted by events," it says, before
Buckingham Palace shared the next portion of the message to their official Instagram account, where King Charles compliments New Zealander's durability and resilience.
"I have long admired the strength and resourcefulness of New Zealanders," the royal message reads. "And I send my thoughts and prayers to all those who are supporting response and recovery efforts."
The message also contains some Te Reo words and their translation: "Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui. Be strong, be brave, be steadfast."
The Auckland floods have been labelled "the biggest climate event in New Zealand's history," by insurers, as reported by The Guardian.
Friday the 27th - the day a state of emergency was called - was the wettest day on record for the City of Sails, with flooding occurring on many streets in a matter of hours, leading to over 600 cars being abandoned and 138 houses having to be evacuated due to damage caused by flooding.
We would also like to wish anyone affected by the floods a quick and successful recovery.
