Hollywood actor (and honorary Kiwi) Jason Momoa is set to tour New Zealand with his band Öof Tatatá, where they’ll play punk, rock and heavy rock classics.
Momoa took to Instagram to announce the news earlier this week, where he shared tour posters for their Auckland, Coromandel, and Rotorua shows.
The band consists of Momoa on bass, joined by Mike Hayes on guitar and vocals, and Kenny Dale on drums. The three have been mates for over 20 years, with Momoa saying they taught him how to play music.
The trio are set to play a plethora of punk, rock and roll, and heavy rock classics, with the setlist leaning heavily into the band’s favourite artists, and ‘a few unlikely surprises.’
Momoa and co. are kicking the tour off at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday 25th October, before heading to Coromandel’s Coroglen Tavern on Sunday the 27th and Rotorua’s Energy Events Center on Saturday November 2nd.
While there’s only three dates released so far, Momoa has said there’ll be six or seven New Zealand shows. They’ll also head to Christchurch and ‘hopefully Queenstown,’ the actor said in a comment on Instagram.
Öof Tatatá played their first official NZ show back in August at Auckland’s Tuning Fork to celebrate the launch of Momoa’s spirit brand Meili Vodka. At that show, they played a ripping 90-minute set.
Before that, the band’s first unofficial performance happened at the Minecraft Movie wrap party, where the band were joined by Jack Black and Rita Ora, and played covers from Black Sabbath, Hendrix, Metallica, Stevie Nicks and Led Zeppelin.
