Jason Derulo sings the first song he ever wrote for his 8yo crush

It's what kick started his love for song writing.

Jason Derulo has shared the first-ever song he wrote, proving his songwriting talent started at a young age.

On the 'Great Company' podcast, Derulo revealed he penned the lyrics at just eight years old for his childhood crush, Amy Hume.

It was sweetly titled ‘Crush on You’. Oh, to be the young Amy Hume.

“[She] sat in front of me, she had curly blonde hair,” Derulo reminisced. “I had no money, I didn’t have anything to give to her, so I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna write her a song.’ And that started the songwriting journey.”

Without hesitation, Derulo sang the lyrics he wrote over two decades ago:

“24/7 days of the week my mind is on you and it’s getting to me // I got a crush on you // I got a crush on you.”

He then shared a funny memory of his older brother taking him to his high school to perform the song for his peers.

“He made me sing it for every single girl he knew and every single teacher he had,” he recalled.

I’ll never forget that day.

We love a proud sibling moment.

That moment sparked his passion for songwriting. By age 16, he had landed his first professional writing gig, and the rest is history.

Amy, we need you to come forward so we can thank you for song absolute tunes!
