'It kills me to say it': Tommy Fury tells 'Men's Health' the real reason for his split with Molly-Mae

"I couldn't be the partner I wanted to be anymore."

Tommy Fury has finally revealed what led to his split from fiancée Molly-Mae Hague, and spoiler alert: it wasn’t a cheating scandal.

In an interview with the 'Men’s Health' podcast, Tommy opened up about developing a drinking problem after a boxing injury took a huge toll on his mental health.

Speaking on infidelity rumours, Tommy said: “People don’t know the half of it. If it hasn’t come from my mouth or Molly’s mouth, it’s complete and utter bullshit…”

The reason Molly and I broke up was because I got addicted to alcohol, and I couldn’t be the partner I wanted to be anymore.

“It kills me to say it… it’s true. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink.”

“People go through different things in life, and I have, you know, we all have our crosses to bear, and I’ve gone mine to bear,” he added.

“You need to get a grip of it. If you’re in the same spot as me, where you just think that it’s going to cure all your problems, it doesn’t. You just wake up even worse and you want to drink more to try and feel happy again. That’s the cycle of it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Tommy shared about an injury that really took its toll on his mental health.

He snapped all the ligaments in his hand resulting in a reconstructive surgery that forced him to put his boxing career on hold.

“I’ve only lived for training and my family, and that was all snatched away from me. So, what I did for fun was I started to drink quite a lot. I found that’s what made me feel better. When I didn’t drink, I’d just look at my hand and think, I might never be able to box again.”

Tommy made it clear that no matter how bad it got he never let it interfere with being a father to his and Molly’s daughter Bambi, but it did start to take its toll on his relationship.

During their very public breakup, Tommy wished fans had considered the possibility he was battling something “deeper” instead of jumping to conclusions about cheating and slamming him online.

“I’m not looking for sympathy. Whether I do the right thing or do the wrong thing, people are still going to hate me. As long as my family loves me. I just want to do my fights, earn my money, and look after my daughter.”

I’ve wasted a year already in my life and I’m ready to pick back up and have a great 2025.

We’re glad to hear he’s feeling more like himself again and taking care of his mental health.
